Howdy! Welcome to your Wednesday Deep Dive.

Shall we?

A great deal of money has been spent recently lobbying Congress on the future of college football.

From the NCAA to ESPN to Smash Sports, various stakeholders have flooded Capitol Hill with cash, hoping to get their way.

But one organization’s effort has never been reported before, despite it being the current focus of the entire sport: The College Football Playoff.

The CFP presents itself as almost a non-entity, a few cubicles and some inbox trays, just helping implement the wishes of the sport’s power conferences. Logistics, basically.

But in the past year, the CFP spent $165,000 to lobby Congress. And since 2004, it’s dropped almost $4.8 million.
